S1E16 - Hereditary Jackassery

Episode(s) Discussed: S2E10 Gropos S2E11 All Alone in the Night

In which both Ivanova and Sheridan should be more genre-conscious when speaking in C&C. “GROPOS” teaches us what a swagger stick is, prompts resentment from Jude that Franklin gets decent content, and introduces “Alfredo Garibaldi”, the new Olive Garden pasta special. In “All Alone in the Night,” Delenn tells some halloween store Roswell Greys to get back to their mom’s basement, the man in-between is looking for Sheridan (although maybe not because of his official EarthForce resume), and the cast are very excited to see an analogue of nose art on the starfuries.

S1E15 - The Babylon Project Fails

Episode(s) Discussed: S2E8 Race through Dark Places S2E9 Coming of Shadows

In which we learn how many Minbari it takes to screw in a lightbulb. “Race through Dark Places” introduces a spicy new look for Delenn, Bester’s spam filter, and our confusion about what precisely the value of a credit is in this universe. In “Coming of Shadows” we discuss design considerations for ships that are black on slightly darker black, a cameo from Aragorn son of Arathorn (wait, wrong podcast, Jeffrey Sinclair), and the fact that EarthGov… Dome… Force… Alliance… really needs a style guide.

S1E14 - Londo Gets a Divorce

Episode(s) Discussed: S2E6 Spider in the Web S2E7 Soul Mates CW for discussion of sexual assault in the summary of “Soul Mates”, from 34:10 - 39:00.

In which Delenn has a bad hair day. “Spider in the Web” features the introduction of an almost-himbo to the show, Franklin’s befuddlement at the concept of blood transfusions, and revelations that Justen is 100% pro-Muppet and Ana first learned the word “badinage” through B5. In “Soul Mates” we contemplate the implications of Londo’s wives being “Famine” “Pestilence” and “Death”, the awkwardness of explaining the birds and the bees to a human-Minbari hybrid, and the bizarre revelation that the Centauri have an Olympic Games. CW for discussion of sexual assault in the summary of “Soul Mates”, from 34:10 - 39:00.

S1E13 - Strange Things from the Rim

Episode(s) Discussed: S2E4 A Distant Star S2E5 The Long Dark

Haha “Rim”. In which Franklin sucks. “A Distant Star” reminds us that we are all star stuff, highlights the more dubious aspects of hyperspace, and prompts regret that a Earth Alliance exploration ship was named the Cortés. In “The Long Dark”, we have a great performance from Dwight Schultz, an alien monster that really creeps out Ana, and the cast discuss the merits of just spacing Franklin as punishment for gross violations of medical ethics.

S1E12 - WIZARDS

Episode(s) Discussed: S2E3 Geometry of Shadows Content Warning for discussion of firearm suicide, 18:00 - 19:10

In which we all love wizard shit so much that it gets its own standalone episode. In the B plot, the Drazi have a very strange notion of natural selection, and all look stunning in purple. In the beef, nay, the turducken of the episode, technomages make LARPing cool, Michael Ansara sticks the landing with his charisma and acting chops, and the cast speculate on whether technomages are the carcinization of magic.

S1E11 - B5 Gets a New Boss

Episode(s) Discussed: S2E1 Points of Departure S2E2 Revelations

In which the phrase “real honest-to-god hot water shower” is first spoken. “Points of Departure” brings us a Minbari experiment with the latest in mall ninja fashion, Keffer challenging Fred Jones for the title of “sexy ascot man”, and our extreme enthusiasm about Sheridan’s dork dad energy. In “Revelations”, Sheridan’s sister is a huge buzzkill, Ana rants about the costumers’ choices for Delenn’s hair, and we are all deeply disappointed by Garibaldi’s survival.

S1E10 - Everything Goes to Hell

Episode(s) Discussed: S1E22 Chrysalis, Season Wrapup

In which we reach our first season finale, and woof it’s a big one. In “Chrysalis”, Delenn evolves into Metapod, G’Kar lays some serious pipe, and the cast questions why the station has a hedge maze. Afterward, we look back at Season 1 and forward at Season 2. Plus, we answer some audience questions, including a broader speculation about alien genitalia and whether it’s truly “pipe” that G’Kar is laying.

S1E9 - Time Shenanigans

Episode(s) Discussed: S1E20 Babylon Squared S1E21 Quality of Mercy

In which we learn that Jude has strong feelings about Doctor Franklin. “Babylon Squared” brings us the show’s first, but certainly not last, foray into time travel, the introduction of the eponymous Zathras, and Ana saying “It’s just a real good episode” way too many times. In “Quality of Mercy”, we see a Centauri dick cheat at cards… and also his penis, explore the darker implications of the role of telepaths in the B5 universe, and share in a well-deserved round of dunking on Doctor Franklin.
