S3E3 - Dark John Crichton

Issue 5: Premise Rejection Issue 6: The Grind

BabPod: DIE is a production of the Okay, So network.

Issue 5: Premise Rejection

Issue 6: The Grind

Premise Rejection: Humanitarian crises are a usual outcome of RPG parties, right? Jude gives The Orc Speech. Who made DIE? Ash has... vibes. Sol's character would be really annoying. Don't be Sol as a GM.

The Grind: Dragons, war machines, what's the difference. All the characters are damaged in ways unrelated to their prior experience in DIE. Some interiority shift! If the consequences are real but the actions aren't, what does that mean? A long diversion into what a meaningful choice in a game even is.

S3E2 - Eucatastrophe

DIE Issues 3 and 4

cw: monster fucking

Loooong deviation on the White Rat series. A big ol' dotted line between the horrors of war and Warhammer 40k. The inverse-Spider-man power question of "with great power comes great moral hazard." Charlotte Bronte??? Are all wizards nasty?

Yeah, ok, this is just an Athrabeth episode. Jude talks at length about subcreation and how well DIE reflects this.

Scott Paladin good, Scott Pilgrim dubious.

S3E1 - Rules? What rules?

Comics are not struck work, so please join us for DIE Issues 1 and 2

CW: Eye trauma

Honestly we probably should just cross-brand this with Athrabeth.

We talk a bit about the philosophy of RPGs and our personal histories. Jude claims Jenga mastery. We all have seven sets of math rocks, minimum. How do you pronounce "Geas"? tell us in the comments. Jude gives a portal fantasy declamation. We were all shitty teens once.

BabPod SAG-AFTRA Statement

Please listen and read the show notes.

Hello, and welcome to the Babylon Podject. We are not talking about any episodes today, because earlier this week SAG-AFTRA released new guides to podcasters with relation to their strike. The guidelines for this rule defines rewatch podcasts as struck work. This is confusing because as both fanwork and critical content, we would not think this applies to us, but the wording of the statement does not include any exceptions. Another podcast shared communication with us from a SAG representative that states that the discussion of struck productions (including older shows like we cover here) is considered promotional and thus while we are not SAG-AFTRA members, promotional material would be considered scab work.

As we wish to show solidarity with both striking guilds, we encourage you to still enjoy watching and reading what you like, but any release of new episodes will have to avoid struck work until an equitable agreement is reached.

Where that leaves us is in a pickle. There's a number of things that we are excited about, and we have almost a dozen episodes in the can right now for our next series, but those will have to wait until we feel that releasing those episodes would not be a striking activity. Until then, we are going to get ~experimental~ and try covering some non-television and movie properties. We'll see how that goes, and hopefully we'll be back to doing our normal thing before I'm hate-reading bad Avengers comics.

So, until next time...we stand with SAG-AFTRA and the Writer's Guild...be seeing you. And if you want a taste of what we’re doing next, here’s the music for our next series…whenever that happens.

EMERGENCY TRAILERPOD

We're BACK! JMS and Amazon dropped the trailer for the new B5 movie, and Zathras brought out the ceremonial Emergency Podcast button for the gang to press. They recorded a podcast without pressing the button. No one listens to Zathras. Kinda nice to hear the old theme though.

S2E50 - Dashwood

S5E12 .EXE S5E13 Return Zero

S5E12 .EXE

S5E13 Return Zero

A discussion of the principles of rewatches.

.EXE: It's A Wonderful Life time. Tesla dunking. Greer tries to convince Finch YET AGAIN that Samaritan is the right choice. Jude hates the locked room scene. Ana scores a prediction win.

Return Zero: What a series finale, especially considering their season order cut. Reese's long-standing deal (GNU Jarold). Shaw gets to be everything Team Machine wants her to be--but is still Shaw. Fusco knows how good he has become. It takes a cruise missile to take out John.

Show Wrap-up: How was Ana right about so much stuff? It's nice to remember a time when good writing rewarded you for being right.

S5E10: The Day the World Went Away

S5E11: Synechtecy

YES WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT THE B5 NEWS.

The Day the World Went Away: Nobody really dies while the Machine is there? Minigun shenanigans. More needle drop appreciation. The ultimate mundanity of death. Fusco gets a yellow box. Dark Harold. Root and Shaw flirting during a gunfight is pretty much the peak of their relationship. Every teacher has had THAT student. "If we're just noise in the system, we might as well be a symphony.

Synecdoche: Rest in peace, cocoa puffs. Poor Shaw. The President--irrelevant? New Machine Team! Only fictional billionaires are good. It's nice to know that what you're doing matters. A side trip into hating ET for some reason. Far too long of a discussion about bombs in fridges.

S2E48 - SHAW-shank Style

CW: discussions of a viral flu pandemic. Skip from around 6 minutes to 23:15 if that's an issue. S5E8: Reassortment S5E9: Sotto Voce

CW: discussions of a viral flu pandemic. Skip from around 6 minutes to 23:15 if that's an issue.

S5E8: Reassortment

S5E9: Sotto Voce

Reassortment: This is about a respiratory virus. Be warned. Shaw answers the question of "what are you going to do, stab me?" with... well... Fusco throws away the camera from season 1. Is the show just lazily Anglocentric or does Samaritan only care about white people? We struggle a bit with Watsonianism and Doylism in this episode.

Sotto Voce: Ugh this guy again. Fusco is upgraded to a yellow box! Root/Shaw is our favorite part of this, because the thing the simulation got wrong is root's devotion. Justen makes a Wallace & Grommet ref. These two episodes might have suffered from the season 5 cut.

S2E47 - Waiting Impatiently for the Great Filter

S5E5: Shotseeker S5E6: A More Perfect Union S5E7: QSO

But first some B5 news.

Shotseeker: Yay Elias is not dead! John's love language is avenging your death. The only thing believable about this technology is that NYC would spend a staggering amount of money on it. This episode really doesn't work in the context of its airing time.

A More Perfect Union: The Great Filter? Shaw's still in a simulation, John's a stripper pimp, there's a wedding, root goes horseback riding. Meanwhile Fusco has to go to a tunnel full of corpses. Michael Emerson's Irish accent is... not good. Jarold shipping intensifies.

QSO: root dress-up episode! 4 Alarm Fire, the best tumblr tag. Our headcanon is that root could burn water. Jude goes on a Powerbar rant. Dollar Store Picardo.

Keith David Appreciation Club

Truth Be Told: TGI Blackbeard's? John does The Worst version of the "on two dates" trope. We actually run into surprisingly few characters who are not related to people John and Kara killed. The end of the boner music!

6,741: Hoo boy. We're happy to see Shaw but gosh. root u-hauls Sameen around 40 minutes after finding her (or at least that's what Shaw wants). No kneecaps? That's a simulation for sure. Lesbian Death Bed Trope lampshaded and subverted, kinda.
